The police are on the lookout for a 25-year-old man who allegedly made off with his bride-to-be’s jewellery and cash worth ₹4 lakh on their wedding day.
Police said the accused, identified as Mansoor Nekvari (25), had been in a relationship with the complainant, a divorcee, for the past four years. As per the complaint filed with Khandeshwar police station on Saturday, the complainant, aged 32, is a school teacher who is between jobs. She was living alone with her son, now aged five, in New Panvel after her divorce. She was introduced to Mr. Nekvari by a common acquaintance.
PSI Goraksh Balwadkar said, “The accused proposed marriage and fixed February 7 as the wedding date. He told her to begin wedding preparations.”
The complainant brought home her gold jewellery weighing 12 tolas and ₹1.5 lakh in cash from the bank. When she awoke on the day of the wedding, she found Mr. Nekvari, her jewellery and cash missing from the flat. She tried in vain to track him down.
“After realising that Mr. Nevkari had cheated her, she approached us and registered a complaint,” Mr Balwadkar said. A case has been registered against Mr Nevkari under IPC sections 376 (rape) and 379 (theft).
