The Mumbai Traffic Police on Wednesday issued an e-challan to actor Kunal Khemu, after a Twitter user brought to their notice some pictures of the actor riding his bike without a helmet. Mr. Khemu tweeted an apology.
Anil Kashyap tweeted a collage of three pictures of Mr. Khemu riding his bike without a helmet, to the Mumbai Police’s Twitter handle - @MumbaiPolice – along with a message seeking action against him.

Shortly after, the police replied to Mr. Kashyap’s tweet, saying an e-challan has been issued, and included an image of the e-challan in the tweet. According to the image, a fine of ₹500 was imposed on Mr. Khemu under the Motor Vehicles Act.
Mr. Khemu later posted a tweet: “I have seen this picture out there and honestly it’s very embarrassing given I love bikes and ride regularly and always with a helmet and some more gear but whether it’s a long ride or just next door a helmet should always be worn.apologies I don’t want to set the wrong example! (sic).”
In response, the police quoted Mr. Khemu’s tweet, and said, “You love bikes, we love every citizen’s safety. And we wish a regret could avert mishaps! Hope next time the realisation won’t be an afterthought! An e-challan has been dispatched.”
This is the second instance of the police taking action against a Bollywood personality for traffic violations. In November last year, an e-challan was issued to actor Varun Dhawan, after a picture of him leaning out of his car’s window at a busy junction in Mumbai to take a selfie with a fan was published in an English daily.
Mr. Dhawan was fined ₹600 for leaning out of the window and driving without fastening his seat belt, and the police also tweeted it.
