Mumbai: Twelve people who were injured in the Elphinstone Road station stampede on Friday were discharged from KEM Hospital in Parel on Sunday. Twenty others injured in the tragedy that claimed 23 lives are still admitted to the hospital, and their condition has stabilised, doctors said.

Dr. Avinash Supe, Dean, KEM Hospital, said 10 male and two female patients were sent home. “Some of the patients still hospitalised require minor surgeries. Six patients have been put on sedatives as they showed signs of anxiety and suffered from sleeplessness,” he said.

In all, 39 people were admitted to the hospital on Friday. One of them, who was critical and had been put on ventilator, died on Saturday. Some were discharged on Saturday while two shifted to other hospitals.

Relatives of the injured were upset as many of them who underwent surgeries were asked to bring medicines from outside the hospital. Pratibha Hatekar, 38, who suffered a severe facial fracture, underwent plastic surgery on Saturday. Her brother, Vikas Javirkar said they had to purchase medication worth around ₹900 from a chemist located outside the hospital. “We did not complain about it, but some relatives were angry,” said Mr. Javirkar.
