Juinagar heist: Malegaon jeweller in Crime Branch net for buying booty

Navi Mumbai: Crime Branch sleuths have arrested a jeweller from Malegaon, who had bought a portion of the booty stolen from Bank of Baroda, Juinagar, and recovered 1.3 kg gold worth worth ₹37 lakh.

According to the police, an accused named Moideen, who is yet to be arrested, had sold a portion of the booty to the jeweller identified as Sanjay Wagh.

Mr. Wagh was aware that the jewellery was stolen. The Crime Branch team, who reached Navi Mumbai on Monday, has left for Nashik in search of another accused. Meanwhile, a team in Howrah has detained a suspect, and will bring him to Navi Mumbai on Tuesday.

Nallasopara residents Deepak Mishra and Kaushal, the mastermind behind the heist, are suspected to have fled to U.P.

Shravan Hegde (37), an auto driver from Govandi, Momin Amin Khan (24) from Goregaon, Hajid Ali Safdar Ali Mirza Baig (45) from Govandi, and Anjan Anand Mahanti alias Anju (43), an auto driver from Vikhroli, have been remanded in police custody till November 27.

The accused dug a 40 feet tunnel and broke open 30 lockers using gas cutters, and made away with valuables worth ₹3.43 crore.
