A Mumbai-based journalist was killed and two scribes were assaulted, allegedly by staffers of a Thane bar, police said on Friday.

The body of Raghavendra Dube was found some distance away from the bar.

According to the police, Santosh Mishra and Shashi Sharma, who work for a local magazine, had gone to the White House bar in Naya Nagar, Thane district, to cover a police raid.

Even as they were clicking photographs, they were allegedly attacked by the bar staff. Soon Mr. Dube reached the spot and then went to the Mira Road police station. Soon after he left the station in the early hours of Friday, the police were informed about a body lying on the Mira-Bhayander road. The body turned out to be Mr. Dube's.

Journalists across Mumbai have demanded action against the culprits.

The Opposition has also supported the demand for law to protect journalists.
