In a will made for a south Mumbai flat about a decade ago, Indrani Mukerjea bequeathed the property to her younger daughter Vidhie and made Sheena Bora Vidhie’s joint legal guardian. However, Indrani withheld the right of sale from Sheena, reserving it exclusively for Vidhie. The will is part of the CBI charge sheet.

This is perhaps one instance indicating Indrani’s disproportionate affinity for Vidhie, in whose property share she saw Sheena as a threat. The CBI has stated Indrani’s “soft corner for Vidhie” as a possible motive for Sheena’s murder.

In the will made in 2004 for a flat in Lower Parel, Indrani states, “I hereby give, devise and bequeath my entire right, title and interest in the said premises to my daughter, Vidhie Mukerjea forever and absolutely and to the exclusion of all my other heirs and legal representatives.”

She further states, “In case of my death and the death of my husband, prior to Vidhie attaining 21 years of age, my mother Durga Ranee Bora and sister Sheena Bora will act jointly and/or severally as Vidhie’s legal guardians till she attains 21 years…I make it explicitly clear that neither my executors and trustees of my estate, nor the said legal guardians of Vidhie will possess the power to sell or in any manner alienate or dispose of the said premises.”

Mother’s will

Meanwhile, Indrani’s mother Durga Ranee Bora made her “last will” in favour of her grandchildren Sheena and Mikhail six days after Sheena’s death.

On April 30, 2012, the late Ms. Bora stated in her will, “It is my wish and desire that, after my death, my husband Upendra Kr. Bora, aged 75 years, will be the sole owner of my property and after him, my granddaughter Sheena Bora, aged 26 years, and grandson Mikhial Bora, aged 25 years, shall be entitled to all my immovable and movable assets and estates and effects thereof.”

It may be noted that according to the prosecution’s case, Indrani not only killed Sheena, but also made an attempt on her son Mikhail’s life for which she has been booked for attempt to murder.

Ms. Bora has recorded that she was changing her will of 2009, due to “some recent developments.”

“It is pertinent to mention that due to some recent developments in the nature of marriage of my granddaughter Sheena (with Rahul), without our knowledge and consent and the fact that she has left us alone with my husband and grandson Mikhail and decided to settle with her husband, therefore, I revoke my previous will.”

Ms. Bora then bequeathed an entire two-storey building in Guwahati to Mikhail and two houses behind this building to Sheena.

In the same document, she mentions that Sheena and Mikhail are Indrani’s children whom she left 20 years ago and had no connection with since.

In October, the senior Ms. Bora, who was bedridden for two years, passed away at the age of 82.
