The Bombay High Court on Friday directed the Maharashtra government and the Central government to come up with a solution to temporarily build an overbridge around the area where Hancock Bridge was demolished.

A Division Bench of Chief Justice Manjula Chellur and Justice G.S. Kulkarni was hearing a public interest litigation filed by a resident of the area stating residents are forced to cross railways tracks causing increase in the number of accidents and deaths since the demolition of the bridge.

Additional Solicitor General Anil Singh appearing for the defence informed the court that as per orders of the court, the Army visited the site and said there is no space to build a temporary bridge.

The court has directed the Defence, the Railways and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation to file a report.
