Gritty Bhuyan salvages a point for Odisha U-19

Biswajit Bhuyan scored a match-saving 142 not out (411b, 20x4) as Odisha Under-19 salvaged a point against Mumbai Under-19 in their Cooch Behar Trophy match at the Sharad Pawar Gymkhana in Bandra-Kurla Complex on Tuesday.

Resuming on 97/0 and trailing by more than 200 runs on the final day, the visiting team posted 283 for two before the match was called off.

Bhuyan lost his opening partner, Raghunath Malla, for 52 (255b, 8x4) at the stroke of lunch. It was pacer Minad P Manjrekar who got the breakthrough. Sairaj B Patil then got rid of Subrat Samal for five to reduce Odisha to 168 for two. Bhuyan then found an able ally in Sandeep Pattnaik (60 n.o., 125b, 11x4, 1x6), and the duo batted for more than 40 overs to defy Mumbai. Mumbai earned three points for taking the first innings lead.

Senior Women’s One-Day Super League: Mumbai 150 in 50 overs (Sheral Rozario 51 n.o.; Shweta Mane 3/37) lost to Maharashtra 151 for two in 43.2 overs (Smriti Mandhana 84 n.o.) by eight wickets (Mumbai 0 pts, Maharashtra 4 pts).

Vijay Merchant Trophy: Baroda 126 in 65.3 overs (Atharv Karulkar 31; Vighnesh Solanki 3/19, Arjun Tendulkar 2/18, Mukund Sardar 2/40) vs Mumbai 87/3 in 26.2 overs (Suved Parkar 45; Yash Yadav 2/31).
