Panaji: A special tribute to Mumbai-based poet Eunice de Souza marked the conclusion of the eighth edition of the Goa Art and Literature festival(GALF) 2017 on Sunday.
Speaking on the occasion, noted writer Jerry Pinto called Eunice a ‘mistress of condensation’, praising her ability to be economical with words. “For instance, in one of her 48-word poems, Eunice ended by saying that it was too long,” Mr. Pinto said, adding she was roud and happy to be a teacher, though a strict one. “However, Eunice was much loved by her students.”
Goa-based writer Jugneeta Sudan recited some of Eunice’s poems and admired her ability to confront topics like sex and sexuality with forthrightness. Damodar Mauzo, co-curator for GALF, said she had attended the festival many times while remembering the warmth between her and the organisers.
