Mumbai: In what comes as a relief to former Home Minister Kripashankar Singh, his family members have been discharged in a 2015 case of disproportionate assets.

Special Judge D.K. Gudadhe discharged Mr. Singh’s wife Maltidevi Singh, son Narendramohan Singh, daughter Sunita Singh, and son-in-law Vijaykumar Singh since there was no charge against them.

They were booked by the Anti-Corruption Bureau for aiding and abetting Mr. Singh. They were all alleged to have amassed assets worth around ₹320 crore.

On February 14, 2018, the same judge had discharged Mr. Singh as sanction was not granted by the State to prosecute him. The police had filed a charge sheet under the Prevention of Corruption Act against him without a sanction.

Mr. Singh had filed the discharge plea on November 28, 2016, through his lawyer K.H. Giri. “The Speaker, on going through the said material, found serious discrepancies in the record of the prosecuting agency and that the disproportionate assets were only to the extent of 0.4%, and on that basis refused to grant sanction sought by the investigating officer,” the plea read.
