Navi Mumbai: The Koparkhairne police have arrested a 48-year-old man for running an illegal medical practice called Dr. Pandey’s Clinic in Sector 1.

In 2010, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) had closed down illegal medical practices, including the accused Kailaschandra Janardhan Pandey’s clinic.

“We had once again sealed the clinic in 2016 and informed the police about it. Now, he has reopened the same clinic, following which we registered a case,” Inspector Samadhan Bajbalkar from the Koparkhairane Police Station said.

Dr. Vasant Mane, NMMC health officer, said, “He was prescribing drugs to patients, who visited his clinic believing that he was a doctor without verifying his credentials.”

Pandey was arrested under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 33 of the Maharashtra Medical Council Act and has been remanded in judicial custody.

Pandey lives with his two sons in Ghansoli village. “He has been claiming that he has a degree called registered medical practitioner, but he is yet to produce any proof. He does not have an MBBS degree, and so cannot practise as a doctor,” Mr. Bajbalkar said.

Meanwhile, the NMMC has sealed another unregistered multi-speciality hospital in Koparkhairane.
