The world’s heaviest woman, Eman Ahmed, who has now lost 242 kg, was shifted out from her special ward on Friday night to the main building of Saifee Hospital. Huzaifa Sehabi, COO of the hospital, said, “She needs better physiotherapy and occupational therapy which involve several equipment. The equipment cannot be shifted as other patients too need them. Therefore, we shifted Ms. Ahmed to the main building.”
Meanwhile, bariatric surgeon Dr. Mufaddal Lakdawala, who played a vital role in bringing Ms. Ahmed to India from Egypt, said it is uncertain if or when she will be able to walk. Dr Lakdawala said, “She has not walked since she was 11. Her knees are weak and her legs are not strong enough. For a person who has been on bed for so long, the uncertainty will always remain. But continued sessions of occupational therapy and physiotherapy will gradually make a difference.”
Ms. Ahmed needs to lose another 50 kg, which could take another month, to be able undergo a CT scan. “We have got in touch with all city hospitals to check if they have a larger machine and have also spoken to companies who make the machines. But these machines generally take about 204 kg weight.,” he said. A CT scan will reveal the reason for the seizures she has been having at regular intervals. Doctors also said Ms. Ahmed could be in mild depression as she has been away from her home for a long time now.
