The Thane Police Crime Branch has arrested two men who allegedly committed a string of burglaries, including ransacking the house of actor Bhagyashree’s in-laws by drugging them in January 2014.

Thane Crime Branch officials said the accused have been identified as Pintu Nishad (26) and Triveni Nishad (33). The police said they were picked up after the Unit V team received a tip-off. The duo was arrested and remanded in police custody.

Mukund Hatote, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime Detection – I), said, “We received information that the duo would be near Vasant Vihar circle on Pokhran Road 2. We apprehended them on the morning of February 17. Tools used for breaking into houses were seized from them.

Mr. Hatote said they confessed to burgling a house in Vartak Nagar and stealing valuables worth ₹62,000.

Mr. Hatote said, “During interrogation, the duo confessed to their involvement in the burglary at the house of actor Bhagyashree’s in-laws. They said one of their accomplices worked as a domestic help at the house.”

The burglary was reported in January 2014 and a case was registered with Juhu police. Pannalal and Shakuntala Dasani, the parents of Bhagyashree’s husband Himalay Dasani, accused their domestic help Sanjay Nishad of drugging them.

₹25 lakh stolen

The police said Sanjay allegedly laced the couple’s breakfast with a sedative. Sanjay then called up Pintu and Triveni and the trio robbed the house of cash and valuables worth ₹25 lakh. Sanjay was arrested in 2014 and convicted in 2016.

The Thane Crime Branch is now investigating if the duo was involved in other crimes within the jurisdiction of Thane police.

Officers said the duo would first seek employment as domestic helps and then rob their employers after working for a few days. Juhu police will also be seeking custody of the duo.
