Mumbai: The Mumbai University’s (MU) delay in declaring results is endangering the future of students applying for post-graduation courses. Over 25 students from the final year of the university’s B.Pharm course face the possibility of losing an academic year despite securing admission in the prestigious National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) in Mohali.

In a letter submitted to Education Minister Vinod Tawde and MU vice-chancellor Dr. Sanjay Deshmukh, the students have urged the authorities to explain to NIPER that the MU results have been delayed, and the students be allowed to continue with the admission process.

“We have our counselling session scheduled on July 17-19, where we are expected to submit our Semester VIII mark sheet, which we have not yet received. Despite our pleas, the authorities there have made it clear that they will need mark sheets, and only after that they will proceed with the admission process,” said one of the students who visited Dr. Deshmukh on Monday.

Payal Sardar, secretary of the Indian Pharmaceutical Association Students’ Forum, Maharashtra, said, “The students are really scared about losing the whole academic year. We made our representation to the authorities. This is not only about these 25 students, but all final year B.Pharm students may face a similar problem if the results are delayed further.”

While students requested anonymity while speaking to reporters, they also urged the State government to intervene in the matter and request other institutions to provide a grace period, especially for students of the MU.

Dr Deshmukh has assured students that mark sheets will be provided by July 16.

Sources in the Education Department said that following the Governor’s intervention in the matter of the delay, a two-member committee will monitor the online evaluation process. It includes a Deputy Secretary from the Higher and Technical Education Department and the Governor’s secretary.
