To set up centres in all constituencies

The Congress is building its social media network across Maharashtra with a centre in every booth in each of the 288 Assembly constituencies of the State.

The Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee’s digital cell is in the process of appointing social media coordinators. A series of study classes across all districts will be held to connect the party’s social media warriors to counter the digital propaganda of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The party has refurbished its social media accounts on several platforms to bring uniformity under the name INCMaharashtra.

Abhijit Sapkal, Congress State in-charge of social media, said, “We are working on both content and reach, with our priority on the latter. An absolutely new team has overtaken the digital section of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee. We aim at connecting our grass-root workers.”

Mr. Sakpal said the party had not delayed in expanding its presence on social media. He said, “We are well in time. What happened in the past is not our concern, but we are looking at the future. We are well ahead of time now and the party’s presence on social media has certainly increased.”

Last week, All India Congress Committee’s social media head Divya Spandana held a meeting with the party’s digital team in Mumbai to review its progress. The party has asked the State unit to ensure appointments of coordinators to build its social media network.

Mr. Sakpal said that the party’s presence on social media may not meet the expectations of the media in Mumbai, but has expanded its reach to areas on the outskirts. He said, “Setting up a social media network essentially means connecting new and a large number of youngsters, both men and women, to the party. Areas outside Mumbai have shown remarkable progress and we expect to continue the good work.”
