The municipal body on Wednesday decided to give Campa Cola one week’s time to hand over the keys and possession of their flats. If the residents fail to do so, the civic body will carry out forceful eviction and demolition.
The decision was taken at a meeting of senior officials which took place at the municipal headquarters on Wednesday afternoon to chalk out the further plan of action.
“We will start issuing notices to the residents on Saturday asking them to hand over their keys. If they fail to do so by next Wednesday, we will serve notices asking why we shouldn’t enter their premises and take action according to Supreme Court directives,” said additional municipal commissioner MM Adtani.
The civic body, however, has not yet received any response for the demolition tenders. But the process will begin by cutting gas, water and electric supply to the residents of the illegal flats, said officials.
The civic body had asked residents to vacate their homes by May 2. The residents failed to do so and appealed to the Supreme Court citing “fresh evidence” in their favour. The Apex Court, however, dismissed the plea on Tuesday. It held that the residents could not be deemed to have been all that innocent as they had bought flats known to be unauthorized.
Meanwhile, few of the residents of Campa Cola on Wednesday started moving out. A day after the belongings were brought out of their homes, a few went to stay with their relatives and friends. Mushtaq Nawab and his wife have decided to stay in the building garage. “We have space there. We will just put mattresses and sleep there,” he said. The others will put up tents in the premises and move there once the civic body issues notices. “We have had no communication with the civic officials yet. We will go to the tents once we know when they are coming to demolish our homes,” said resident Vidya Srinivasan.
