The civic body has given yet another extension to Campa Cola residents for vacating their flats. After the death of an 88-year-old resident, the municipality has given them a fresh extension until Friday.

Resident Vinod Kothari died on Sunday. Residents approached the civic body to extend the deadline on humanitarian grounds. Tuesday was the day the municipal authorities had chosen to enter the premises and cut water and electricity supply to illegal flats.

"We requested the commissioner to extend the deadline. His last rites and ceremony have to be conducted today," said Vidya Srinivasan, a resident.

The residents have missed several deadlines. In November 2013, when the demolition was about to begin, the Supreme Court ordered a stay and gave them time till May 31. Residents went to court again but this time, the Apex Court dismissed their plea.
