Reliance Defence gets 16 more manufacturing licences

Reliance Defence now has 27 licences to address the entire spectrum of defence equipment manufacturing

Reliance Defence has received 16 licences to manufacture an array of hardware ranging from small arms, heavy weapons, ammunition and explosives to electronic warfare systems, missiles, unmanned vehicles and laser systems for all defence platforms.

With these new licences, Reliance Defence, the wholly-owned subsidiary of Reliance Infrastructure, now has a total of 27 licences to address the entire spectrum of defence equipment manufacturing.

Of the 16 new licences, 11 pertain to land systems and three to naval systems while the remaining two cover niche technologies across the defence spectrum.

The land systems include design, development and production of heavy weapons of all calibres, electronic warfare systems, ammunition, explosives, tanks, and small arms laser systems for target destruction, among others, said a company statement.

Reliance Land Systems Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Reliance Defence Ltd, will be the lead venture for the manufacturing of missiles, explosives, heavy weapons and tanks while Reliance SED Ltd will be the lead entity for the manufacture of electronic warfare systems, directed energy weapon systems and laser systems for target destruction. The total opportunities in land systems already approved by the government are in excess of Rs. 200,000 core.

Reliance Defence Ltd is also aiming at developing an infantry combat vehicle, which will not only address the domestic requirement but can also addresses the global requirements, estimated at Rs. 350,000 crore ($50 billion). Reliance Unmanned Systems Ltd, another subsidiary of Reliance Defence Ltd, intends to target requirements of the Indian Navy, Army and Air Force for unmanned systems. The combined value of these programmes over the next 10 years is expected to exceed Rs. 30,000 crore.
