The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to build flyovers at Vikhroli and Vidyavihar stations of the Central Railway (CR) at a cost of ₹153 crore. The BMC’s proposal will come up for approval before the standing committee on Thursday.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) had proposed to build the flyovers in 2007 as part of its Mumbai Urban Transport Project, but it failed to do so.
The BMC’s bridges department has now begun the process of drawing up the construction plan, making estimates and hiring consultants.
While the 450-metre-long flyover at Vidyavihar will cost ₹108 crore and connect L.B.S Marg to R.C. Marg, the 566-metre long Vikhroli flyover will cost ₹45.77 crore and come up at Level Crossing No. 14. The Railways has already approved the plan for the Vikhroli flyover and ₹23.75 lakh was paid to experts at IIT Bombay for scrutinising the project plan.
The BMC said that the flyover is likely to be completed in 18 months.
