Activist Anjali Damania on Saturday registered an FIR with the Vakola police, claiming that she had received a threatening call from a number in Pakistan in the early hours of Saturday.

The caller allegedly told her that she would face dire consequences if she did not withdraw the complaint she had registered against senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Eknath Khadse. She has said she was at home when she received the call at 12:33 a.m. on Saturday.

“The caller told me that my life would be made miserable if I did not withdraw the complaint against Mr. Khadse. The number is registered as ‘Dawood 2’ with Truecaller,” Ms. Damania said.

FIR registered

In a recording of the call shared by Ms. Damania, the caller speaks to her in Hindi, repeatedly tells her that his identity is not important, and that she should withdraw her complaint. She subsequently visited the Vakola police station on Saturday morning to register a complaint.

Mumbai police spokesperson and Deputy Commissioner of Police Rashmi Karandikar confirmed that an FIR had been registered and that investigations into the matter had been initiated.

Ms. Damania had earlier registered a complaint that obscene comments had been made against her.
