An ambulance belonging to Panvel Municipal Hospital was engulfed in fire on Mumbai-Pune highway near Shedung toll naka at around 7 a.m. on Thursday. The ambulance was rushing to Fanaswadi village to attend to a patient. The driver suddenly noticed smoke rising from the engine.

A fire brigade officer from Panvel said, “Prima facie it seems that a short circuit in the engine started the fire.

The flames spread to the oxygen cylinder and caused it to burst, damaging the whole ambulance. It took around one hour to douse the fire completely.”
