Action against Campa Cola residents unjust, says Raj Thackeray

June 11, 2014 02:48 am | Updated November 16, 2021 08:01 pm IST - Nashik (Maharashtra):

Decrying the court action against residents of illegal flats in Worli’s Campa Cola compound as “unjust”, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray on Tuesday said those responsible for the construction of such unauthorised structures should be punished and sent to jail.

Replying to a query, Mr. Thackeray said: “There are several illegal buildings in Thane as well. Why should residents bear the brunt when they have nothing to do with it? When will the builders and administrative officers responsible for such unauthorised structures be punished and sent to jail?”

Mr. Thackeray said it was wrong punish those who bought the flats and paid taxes regularly: “During construction of such buildings, the government machinery wilfully connives and then suddenly after so many years they say that the structure is unauthorised.” — PTI
