Arbaaz Usmani, the biker who was critically injured in an accident on JJ flyover earlier this month, died while undergoing treatment on Thursday night.

Usmani (22) along with his friends Osama Khan (18), Iraz Khan (19) and Shahnawaz Khan (18) were heading towards Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus for Id shopping when their bikes were involved in an accident on June 13 on the flyover.

Iraz, who was riding pillion on Usmani’s bike, died on the spot. Usmani was admitted to JJ Hospital with severe head injuries. He was booked by Pydhonie police for causing death due to rash and negligent driving.

Senior Police Inspector Avinash Kanade, Pydhonie police station, said, “We were informed about Usmani’s demise by JJ Hospital authorities. We will be filing an abeted summary report in court.” An abeted summary report is a closure report filed by the investigating agency when an accused in an ongoing case dies. Following the incident, the traffic police deployed additional personnel to prevent two-wheeler riders from using the flyover. Two-wheelers were banned from the flyover in 2010.

“Additional personnel are still deployed at the flyover and speed cameras will be soon installed on the flyover,” Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Amitesh Kumar said.
