Panvel City police on Wednesday night arrested a 19-year-old man, who was absconding in a murder case, from Chirvat village near Palaspa in Panvel.

The accused, who has been identified as Shubham Bhagwan Thombre, was arrested based on a tip-off. He went missing after Dyaneshwar Kondilkar (29), who worked as body guard, was found murdered on Tuesday night.

Prithviraj Ghorpade, Assistant Police Inspector at Panvel City police station, said, “After the murder on Tuesday night, we circulated the photo of the accused among our informers. When we learnt that one of our informers had spotted him in Chirvat village, we laid a trap and nabbed him.”

According to the police, Thombre, a driver by profession, and Dyaneshwar were childhood friends and residents of Kudave village in Panvel.

On Tuesday evening, Thombre allegedly hurled abuses at women at the Kondilkar household. When Dyaneshwar along with his father and brother confronted Thombre, he pulled out a knife and attacked them. Dyaneshwar sustained fatal wounds, while his brother and father were seriously injured in the attack.

The accused was presented before the Panvel court on Thursday and has been remanded in police custody till August 21.
