Navi Mumbai: In a joint operation, the Mumbai Police Special Branch’s Unit I and Koparkhairane police station raided slum areas in Sector 19, Koparkhairane on Saturday, and apprehended nine Bangladesh nationals.

Senior PI Shivaji Awate, Koparkhairane police station, said, “Of them, three were wanted by the Mumbai Police Special Branch, whose team has taken them to Mumbai.” The six apprehended by Navi Mumbai Police are indentified as Arif Siddar age (23), Hamida Siddar age (45), Bokul Siddar age (29), Samsu Siddar (50), Muslima Siddar age (45) and Masuma Gazi (28).

“Initially, we had caught 10 of them but one of them, a woman, had a valid passport and visa," API Sunil Gavali, Koparkhairane police station, said.

As per procedure, the six will get some time from the court to prove they are Indians. “If they are unable to produce documents to prove their Indian citizenship, they will be deported to Bangladesh after verifying their addresses there via that country’s Embassy,” Mr. Gavali said.

Police said the drive was conducted after the Mumbai Police Special Branch team received a tip-off that the Bangla nationals were residing in Koparkhairane. “While trying to locate the three wanted men, we also caught six illegal immigrants,” he added. All of them worked in the vicinity on daily wage basis.
