656 posts approved for Navi Mumbai civic body

Navi Mumbai: The Urban Development Department on Monday sanctioned 656 posts in the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC). With this, the total number of posts at the civic body will be 3,935.

“The UDD will pass a recruitment rule for the new posts after which the procedure will start. Ideally, it will take around six months for these posts to be functional,” said NMMC Commissioner N Ramaswami.

Among the approved, 292 posts were approved for the ward offices, taking the total number to 676. “The ward offices will become more organised,” said Mr. Ramaswami.

The social work department has got 40 posts, taking the number to 53. Similarly, 45 posts have been sanctioned for the school meant for differently abled children, taking the figure to 52. Besides, 10, 13 and 11 posts have been approved for the licensing, encroachment, and the city development, taking the total numbers to 11, 16, and 35 respectively.

The corporation with 15-lakh population is hit by a shortage of workers. “With more hands, the time to finish a particular work would reduce. This proposal was being followed by me. The proposal was drafted after a survey of the population and the staff we have in each department,” said the NMMC chief.
