Panaji: A four-year-old girl drowned in a swimming pool at a coastal resort in Calangute, north Goa on Thursday. Police said Arini Gupta had come to the resort with her parents and other family members from Shahajanpur, Uttar Pradesh for a vacation.

On Thursday, the family forbade Arini and other children from entering the swimming pool as they readied for a dip. However, Arini entered the swimming pool when her parents weren’t looking, and drowned. Swimmers took the child to the State Health Centre, Candolim where she was declared brought dead.

The body has been sent for post-mortem at the Goa Medical College Hospital in Bambolim.
