Mumbai: The Kherwadi police on Tuesday arrested four young men for allegedly killing their 17-year-old friend to rob his house.
According to the police, the deceased, Ajay Jaiswal, lived with his parents in Dnyaneshwar Nagar, Kherwadi. He was alone at home for over a week, as his parents had gone to their hometown in Chattisgarh.
The police said that when Jaiswal’s parents returned on Tuesday morning, he did not open the door despite them repeatedly ringing the doorbell, knocking, and calling out his name. A foul smell was coming from the house, which made them suspicious, and they called the police.
The police broke the door open, and found Jaiswal’s partially decomposed body, with his throat slit, in the living room.
“The absence of forced entry led us to suspect that someone known to Jaiswal might have killed him. We made inquiries in the area and found that he was regularly seen with some friends,” said a police officer. The friends were brought to the police station. After sustained questioning, they confessed to having killed Jaiswal.
“Jaiswal and his friends would gather at his house every day and consume drugs. The friends hatched a plan to kill him so that they could rob the house and on Monday,” said Mumbai Police spokesperson DCP Deepak Deoraj.
Sharif Shaufakat Ali (21), Shahzad Ali (20), Saddam Maqbool (18) and Siraaj Hashmi (19) have been charged them with murder under the Indian Penal Code, said ACP Arun Mane, Kherwadi division.
