Navi Mumbai: As many as 20 coporators of the Shiv Sena in Navi Mumbai have submitted their resignation with Vitthal More, the party’s Vashi corporator and incharge for Belapur Assembly seat, disconcerted by the decision of their seniors of not nominating new members to join the standing committee.

With five members of the Sena completing their tenure in the committee, the party had to nominate new members before the standing committee election, which is due in May. The committee comprises of 16 members, including six members from the Sena, eight from the NCP, one each from the Congress and the BJP.

In the General Body meeting, which is to be held on Wednesday, the mayor would disclose the names of the nominated members for the standing committee.

“Around 20 corporators tendered their resignation to me but I have not accepted it,” Mr. More said. “Their grievance is genuine but I made them understand that resignation is not the solution to it. They are unhappy that veterans were holding on to every post and not giving chance to new comers, and particularly unhappy with the inclusion of Opposition leader Vijay Chaughule’s name as the nominee.”

He added, “According to them, Chaughule was already given a chance to be Zilla Pramukh, and he became Opposition leader afterwards, so now it is not fair to give him a chance to become a standing committee member as well.”

He also said that the against Mr. Chaughule are that he has “never done any work as a standing committee member from the Shiv Sena, then why is he given the chance again?” Others who have been nominated as standing committee members are Namdev Bhagat, Saroj Patil, Dwarkanath Bhoir, Ranganath Auti.

Mr. More have forwarded the members’ grievances to Guardian Minister Eknath Shinde, Sena MP Rajan Vichare, Shiv Sena Deputy Leader Vijay Nahata and Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray. He says that he expects seniors will take an appropriate decision over the complaints.
