Awareness programmes involving medical students, nursing students, ASHA workers, Blood Donors Associations and health workers marked World AIDS Day observance organised by Health Department in Kozhikode on Friday. District panchayat president Babu Parasseri opened the programme at the Government Medical College while Medical College Principal V.R. Rajendran flagged off the awareness rally.

Exhibitions were organised on the premises of the KSRTC Bus Stand and Railway Station. A Proclamation Rally and Kalaripayattu show was held on Kozhikode Beach later. Students of Providence Women’s College conducted a flash mob on mofussil bus stand premises. A street play by Manoranjan Arts was also performed on the occasion. The Blood Donors Forum lighted lamps in honour of the victims of the disease.

Chairman of Health Standing Committee of the Kozhikode Corporation K.V. Baburaj presided over the district-level convention while District RCH Officer Sarala Nair administered the oath.

Dr. Rajendran delivered the keynote address.

Meanwhile, students of Malabar Medical College conducted a rally and street play at Ullyeri under the slogan ‘Let us end it’. President of Ullyeri grama panchayat Shaju Cherukavil opened the programme. Health Inspector Praveen Kumar presided over the event.
