Shivapuram Government Higher Secondary School, near Balussery, will play host to the district-level Praveshanolsavam ceremony organised under the aegis of the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan and the district panchayat in connection with the reopening of schools for the next academic year on June 2.

“Preparations are in full swing to make it an impressive affair,” said V.A. Latheef, president of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), at the school. Minister for Panchayats and Social Justice M.K. Muneer will inaugurate the event at the district-level and Kanathil Jameela, district panchayat president, will preside.

A proclamation rally featuring floats, which would cover some of the neighbouring panchayats such as Unnikulam, Panangadu, and Nanmanda would herald the event on June 1. A ceremony named Akshara Vilakku, in which around 500 ‘chiratu’ (earthen lamps) would be lit on the premises of the school and in Shivapuram town, would be another attraction.

The ceremony will also coincide with the ‘Navati’ (90 anniversary) celebration of the school. “A ‘Navati’ special supplement of the school will be released during the inaugural ceremony of the event,” said Mr. Latheef. A cultural procession with attractions such as chinkarimelam, muthukkuda, and band troops would be part of it. Special Gifts and sweets would be given to the new entrants.

An organising committee with M.K. Raghavan, MP; Purushan Kadalundi, MLA; and Mayor A.K. Premajam as patrons has been constituted for the event. K.K. Sivadasan, district panchayat education standing committee coordinator, said that study materials, uniforms, and umbrellas would be distributed to students during the programme.
