The Walk of Hope 2015-16 led by Sri M entered the district on Saturday. It arrived at Cheruvannur from Parappanangadi, covering a distance of 19 km.
Former Mayor Thottathil Raveendran received the padayatra at the Kadalundi Kadavu bridge.
The walk will reach Kozhikode city on Sunday, Thiruvangoor on Tuesday, Koyilandy on Wednesday, Puthuppanam on Thursday, and cross over to Kannur district on February 27.
The aim
The Walk of Hope is a padayatra for peace and harmony by the Manav Ekta Mission from Kanyakumari to Kashmir.
Led by Sri M, spiritual guide, social reformer, and educationist, it seeks a significantly restored nation, fit enough to be bequeathed to future generations.
A public reception will be accorded to him on the Kozhikode beach at 5 p.m. on Sunday. This will be followed by a music concert by playback singer Nishad.
Sri M will visit the Thiruvannur Swathi Tirunal Kala Kendra run by Kaithapram Damodraan Namboodiri and later visit the Sreekanteswara temple, Idiyangara Dargah, and the Kuttichira Mishkal mosque. K. Veerankutty, chairman, State Minority Commission; K.M. George, Principal, Orthodox Theological Seminary, Kottayam; M.N. Karassery, writer; Fazal Gafoor, president, Muslim Educational Society; P.S. Sreedharan Pillai, Bharatiya Janata Party leader; and the Kozhikode Valiya Khazi will participate in the reception.
Sri M, born in a Muslim family in Thiruvananthapuram, travelled to the Himalayas at the age of 19, meetings saints and sages, gaining spiritual fulfilment under the guidance of Maheswarnath Babaji. His autobiography, Apprenticed to a Himalayan Master – A yogi’s Autobiography , is a bestseller. The Walk of Hope has so far traversed nearly 700 km from Kanyakumari over the past 42 days, passing through Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Malappuram. The Kerala leg of the walk will conclude on March 7, when it crosses over to Karnataka, after covering a distance of 827 km with 48 halts in the State.
The walk was flagged off on January 12 from Kanyakumari by Karan Singh, MP.
