Vayala Vasudevan Pillai, former director of School of Drama, Thrissur, and author of many books on theatre and biographies, has been an inspiration to the young theatre personalities in the State.
Four years after his death, the Vayala Anusmarana Samithi in Kozhikode in association with Dr.Vayala Vasudevan Pillai Trust for Research on Theatre and Gandhian Studies has organised a five-day programme in his memory in Kozhikode. An exhibition of photographs featuring various incidents from the life of the illustrious playwright is being held at the Kerala Lalithakala Akademi Art Gallery in Kozhikode since Saturday, as part of the programme.
The exhibition is an account of his various expeditions, in Greece, Switzerland, Korea and Japan, awards that he received, both at national and State-level, his work at the School of Drama, rehearsals, discussions, public functions, and his association with noted personalities such as G. Sankara Pillai, his mentor, playwright Kavalam Narayana Panicker, other theatre personalities such as N.N. Pillai, MRB, Prof.S. Ramanujam, cinema personalities such as directors Aravindan and Adoor Gopalakrishnan, actors Murali and Gopi, writers, singers and so on. The exhibition also features a stall of the prominent books by and on Vayala, in Malayalam, English and Hindi.
The programme also features a poets’ convention and a commemoration meet on September 29, which will be inaugurated by Vice Chancellor of the Malayalam University K. Jayakumar.
