A villa under construction on a hillock near Methottuthazham in the city partly collapsed on Monday.
Fire and Rescue Service personnel said no one sustained injuries in the incident as the workers were away from the site.
Spot check
However, on the suspicion of the local people, the rescue team checked the spot with an earth mover.
Senior revenue officials inspected the project site and collected details of the workers.
They said preliminary investigations revealed no violation in the mode of construction.
According to the Fire and Rescue Service personnel, the villa constructed by a private builder collapsed following caving in of a filled area close to the compound wall. However, the nearby villas were found safe.
Stay on works
District Collector N. Prasanth, who visited the site, issued a stay on all further constructions at the site.
Mr. Prasanth said the construction was carried out in a careless way at the site.
It was also difficult to believe that a soil test was conducted in the area prior to the launch of the work, he said.
