Lashing out at the State government over its ‘adamant stance against anti-GAIL protesters, Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) State president Panakkad Syed Hyderali Shihab Thangal has said that the ruling Left parties are trying to create a Nandigram or Singur in the State.

Speaking after launching the ‘Malabar rally’ in connection with the ongoing Padayorukkam campaign led by Leader of the Opposition Ramesh Chennithala on the Kozhikode beach on Wednesday, the Thangal condemned the police action against innocent people and urged the government to take the affected people into confidence before going ahead with the pipeline project.

He said it was paradoxical that the CPI(M), which used to block all development projects during the time of the UDF government, was suddenly talking about development. However, any development project should be implemented without affecting the common man, the Thangal said.

He also accused the Left government of trying to implement the RSS agenda in the education sector. The situation in the country was now so dire that people were being arrested for raising slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The CPI(M) spoke vehemently against the polices of the BJP-led government at the Centre only to woo minorities, he said.

The Thangal said that the Centre’s demonetisation policy had neither helped bring back black money nor curbed corruption. At the same time, the note ban had brought immense suffering to the common people, he said.

Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president M.M. Hassan presided over the function. IUML national president K.M. Khader Moideen and national general secretary P.K. Kunhalikutty, former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, M.K. Raghavan, Mullappally Ramachandran,. M.I. Shanavas, MPs, Janata Dal (United) State president M.P. Veerendrakumar and UDF convener P.P. Thankachan spoke at the rally.
