Trauma Care volunteers paid tribute to the victims of various road accidents to mark the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims at B.E.M. Girls’ Higher Secondary School here on Sunday. Lighting candles, the meet remembered 155 persons killed in various accidents within the city limits in 2017.

Reckless driving

Trauma Care team leaders said 67 of the total victims were two-wheeler riders who had lost their lives due to reckless driving or the reluctance to wear safety gear. Most of them were between the ages of 18 and 30, they said.

The function opened by Regional Transport Officer C.J. Paulson was attended by government officials, voluntary organisation members and family members of the victims.

Office-bearers of Trauma Care Kozhikode (TRACK), who hosted the event, said they had constituted a well-trained team of 48,000 persons to reduce the number of road accidents. The volunteers would offer psychological support for bed-ridden accident victims and their families, they added.
