Unilateral decisions and authoritarianism by the State government have fuelled people’s protests against the Gail gas pipeline project, Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) national general secretary P.K. Kunhalikutty, MP, has said.

Initiative

Inaugurating a protest gathering organised by the Anti-Gail Action Council at East Kodur near here on Tuesday, Mr. Kunhalikutty said the government should take initiative to end the impasse over the issue.

He called upon the media to expose the government apathy in the matter. He said the gas pipeline could be laid by minimising troubles to the people.

“The government should explore alternatives,” he said, adding the government policy of suppressing people’s unrest was undemocratic. “Even the cadres of the ruling party do not agree with the government policy,” he said.
