The government has given the go-ahead to implement new tourism development projects worth ₹57 crore in Kozhikode district, Tourism Minister Kadakampally Surendran has said.
Boys’ hostel
Opening the works for a boys’ hostel of the Kerala State Institute of Hospitality Management here on Thursday, the Minister said north Malabar had good tourism prospects.
The government would implement projects beneficial for the local communities, which would also be eco-friendly in nature. All the projects would be scrutinised to ensure their quality.
Mr. Surendran said the work on the girls’ hostel would begin next year. He also participated in the cake mixing ceremony. The sweets prepared at the institute will be distributed in orphanages.
Cultural zone
Later, the Minister opened a cultural zone at the Kozhikode beach. The Tourism Department plans to repair the main stage on the beach and set up two more stages to utilise them as the permanent venue for the Kerala Literature Festival.
