Electricity Minister Kadakampally Surendran has said that Kerala will be the first State in the country to be fully electrified by March 15, 2017.
An intensive programme would be launched to implement this project from August, the Minister said while addressing a meeting of MLAs, local bodies’ chiefs, and Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) officials, at the collectorate conference hall here on Saturday.
Mr. Surendran also elaborated on the steps to be taken by KSEB officials.
As many as 2.5 lakh houses in the State still had to be electrified. Ward members, Kudumbasree volunteers, voluntary agencies should help to identify the households that are not electrified, he said.
Panel to be formed
A committee with Excise Minister T.P. Ramakrishnan as chairman, the District Collector as convener and MPs, MLAs, district panchayat members, deputy chief engineer as members would be constituted in the district to speed up the process. Similar committees would be formed in other districts as well.
An MLA will be the chairman at the district level and the grama panchayat president at the panchayat level. Committees including councillors will be formed at the KSEB section office levels in corporations and municipalities.
Meetings will be held at the Assembly constituency-level within a week. A draft list of the non-electrified houses would be published by the KSEB section offices by September 9, the Minister said. The final list would be published by September 20. The funds for the total electrification project would be estimated by September 25. Solar energy facilities would be set up in forest areas where electric posts could not be installed, Mr. Surendran said.
The 14 districts in the State would declare total electrification between March 1 and 14. Prior to that, MLAs would make the declaration in their Assembly constituencies, he said.
