The Kerala Road Fund Board (KRFB) has notified tenders for the development of six roads under the Kozhikode City Road Improvement Project. All the projects will be under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) scheme.
The objective of the tenders is to pre-qualify and shortlist suitable bidders for participation in the bid stage. The awarding of the project will be through an open competitive bidding process. The applications should be submitted by July 14. These will be opened on the same day itself, officials said.
The declaration of pre-qualified applicants and awarding the work to a qualified company will take about four months.
Previously the SREI Infrastructure Finance Limited was appointed as the Transaction Advisor by KRFB for the development of the project.
The eight roads will be developed in the first phase of the City Road Improvement Project. But only six roads will be developed in the initial stage.
These are - Stadium-Puthiyara Road (0.6 km), Kovoor-Vellimadukunnu Road (2.7 km), Karaparamba- Eranhipalam and Arayadathupalam-Kalluthankadavu Road (4.5 km), Gandhi Road-Mini Bypass and Kuniyilkavu-Mavoor Road Junction (3.4 km), Pushpa Junction to Mankavu Junction (2.4 km) and Panathuthazham-CWRDM road (8.45 km).
The other two roads, Mananchira-Vellimadukunnu and Mananchira-Meenchanda will be developed separately.
This is because land required for the purpose has not been acquired for the Mananchira-Vellimadukunnu road.
The process of preparing alignment is yet to commence in the case of Mananchira-Meenchantha road.
The total construction cost is estimated at Rs. 254 crore, excluding the cost for land acquisition.
The Mananchira- Meenchanda road has been included in the City Road Improvement Project considering the proposed Kozhikode Monorail project.
The Finance Department had accorded administrative sanction for the construction of eight roads in February. But the tendering process got delayed on account of the Election Model Code of Conduct, officials said.
