After a day’s recess following the demise of senior SFI activist Ahammed Afsal, 23, who is also the organising committee office bearer of the five-day Kannur University Kalotsavam, the stage events resumed on Sunday.

Rich tributes were paid on Sunday at the LBS Engineering College here to the departed students’ leader, who died in a road mishap on Saturday.

With a day left for the culmination of the event, reigning overall champions Payyanur College, with 170 points, continued to top the table.

It is facing stiff challenge from Nehru Arts & Science (NAS) College, Kanhangad, which garnered 164 points.

Following them are Government Brennen College, Thalassery with 122 points and Government College, Kasaragod, 98, and Don Bosco College, Angadikadavu, Kannur, 93, which pose little threat to the two leading contenders in the competition that will conclude on Monday.
