A special action plan will be prepared for the districts of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, and Malappuram as part of intensifying the monsoon-related disease prevention and control activities. The districts bore most of the dengue fever burden, Health Minister V.S. Sivakumar said.
Presiding over the senior medical officers’ conference here on Friday, Mr. Sivakumar said meetings of local body representatives would be called in these districts on July 2 by the Ministers in charge of the respective districts.
The district-level meetings would be attended by Mayors, chairmen of Municipalities, district panchayat presidents, convenes of health standing committees, medial officers in-charge of community health centres, and health supervisors.
The fever epidemic in the State was under control and the number of fever and dengue cases were coming down, the meeting said. The availability of medicines and additional medical personnel had been ensured in all districts. The meeting directed that ward-level sanitation committees should be asked to utilise the funds allotted to them in the best possible way and to intensify vector control and source reduction activities with community participation.
The Minister said the Rs.4 crore allotted by the Cabinet for paying off the salary dues of the 1,902 personnel specially engaged for carrying out the monsoon-related disease control activities would be made available soon.
