Singing of songs and staging a mock play against moral policing marked an informal get-together of activists at the Mananchira ground here on Thursday in protest against the attack on young couples at Marine Drive in Kochi recently.

Poet Kalpatta Narayanan, who spoke at the event, stressed the need for healthy man-woman friendships to prevent increasing cases of assaults on women and children.

He said that fascism could not be fought with another model of fascism. Only people’s resistance movements could offer an alternative to it, he added.

Left-leaning activists, cultural activists, and members of groups such as ‘Njattuvela’ were present. They sung songs and raised slogans against incidents of moral policing. Later, they marched to Kidson Corner.

Police personnel were present in large numbers.
