Sexual assault case: Crime Branch to submit report soon

Report will be submitted to ADGP

March 02, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:40 am IST - Kozhikode:

The Crime Branch team which probed the Parakkadavu sexual assault case in which a kindergarten girl student was allegedly abused by two madrasa students will shortly submit its final investigation report to the Additional Director General of Police (Crimes).

Official sources said the report would be submitted to the Nadapuram Judicial First Class Magistrate Court after getting sanction from the ADGP.

Any reinvestigation into the incident would be considered only on the basis of the ADGP’s response to the report, the sources said.

The Crime Branch investigation report says the complaint made by the girl’s parents that she was sexually abused by the madrasa students was baseless. The team arrived at the conclusion after interrogating several persons and verifying scientific test results, the sources said.

A senior Crime Branch officer who was part of the investigation team told The Hindu on Sunday that there was some propaganda to create misunderstanding about the incident. “We came to the conclusion after thoroughly studying the case,” he said.

School stance

Earlier, the management of the Darul Huda school had alleged that the parents’ petition was meant to tarnish the image of the institution, and make “innocent” students scapegoats.

The Crime Branch inquiry was ordered after taking into account the request of some top religious leaders who run the school.

However, the girls’ parents had expressed strong protest over handing over of the case to the Crime Branch. They said the investigation conducted by the Rural police who arrested the two suspected students was satisfactory. They also alleged that the reinvestigation was aimed at scuttling the police report and protecting the accused.
