Protest over delay in road widening project

June 18, 2014 11:47 am | Updated 11:47 am IST - Kozhikode:

An emergency meeting of the Road Action Committee on Tuesday has decided to launch different agitation programmes in protest against indefinite delay in starting the land acquisition procedures for widening the Mananchira—Vellimadukunnu road, included in the City Road Development Project.

The committee led by historian M.G.S Narayanan would begin the agitation in the city on July 5, said the committee office bearers in a release here on Tuesday.

“The authorities seem to be waging a war against the public by delaying the project even after the direct intervention of the Chief Minister in it,” said the action committee members, who alleged that vested interest groups were persistently attempting to ensure that the project didn’t take off. As the first step of the agitation, a dharna would be staged in front of the Collectorate at 10 a.m. on July 5, said the action committee members.
