Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has stated that the mass contact programme is not a project meant for the distribution of some financial aid from the State government’s relief fund as falsely propagated by some segments.
Addressing the district-level mass contact programme at the Malabar Christian College ground here on Saturday, Mr. Chandy said the project could always make a difference by accepting on-the-spot complaints from people and finding instant solutions. It extended a big support to people to settle issues that were not properly dealt by the officials owing to various technical reasons, he said. He added that criticisms would be taken with a positive spirit.
Priority projects
Explaining the priority areas of the government in Kozhikode, Mr. Chandy said the existing facilities in the Government Medical College Hospital would be developed further by operating six more ventilators. Along with this, 18 technicians too would be appointed to ensure its proper functioning, he added.
Talking about the initiative taken by the government to install linear accelerators for treating cancer patients, Mr. Chandy said the facility would soon become functional with the approval of the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board.
For addressing drinking water scarcity, the government had already allocated Rs.42 crore to the district. The Chief Minister also stated that the acquisition procedures for an alternative road from Kozhikode to Wayanad would be completed in a time-bound manner. For supporting the 22 families who lost houses and land in the Pulloorampara landslips, the government had already acquired land and the construction of houses would begin shortly, he said.
21,765 seek help
Special Correspondent writes from Kozhikode: The Chief Minister ordered welfare aid to the tune of Rs.1.63 crore by 8.15 p.m. at the mass contact programme held here on Saturday.
As per an official release, 941 persons received financial aid of a total of Rs.1,58, 49,000 from the Chief Minister’s relief fund. Thirteen persons who suffered losses from natural disasters were allocated relief of Rs.5,33,500. The programme saw intervention in rectifying errors in 322 ration cards. It saw a total of 21,765 persons approach the Chief Minister for help. The total number of complaints received in person is 11,700, while another 10,065 complaints were received online.
