The Vellayil police have registered a case and started inquiry into an incident in which two Childline workers were manhandled by a group of men inside a flat on Friday.

The case was registered as per the complaint filed by Childline’s Kozhikode centre coordinator P.P. Sulaiman and team member P. Praveen, who were attacked by the gang.

In the complaint, the Childline workers alleged that they were assaulted by a three-member gang after being locked inside a flat at Vellayil. They visited the flat for collecting details about a girl child who was reportedly being tortured by her alcoholic father.

The helpline of the Childline was tipped off about the suspected torture.

According to Mr. Sulaiman and Praveen, the gang unleashed attack against them in presence of the father.

Police officials from the Vellayil station said they would investigate both of the incidents, including the suspected child abuse case.
