It may be a literary pilgrimage of sorts. Marking the 30th anniversary of penning his iconic poem Naranathu Bhranthan , Malayalam poet V. Madhusoodanan Nair will reach Rayiranallur, near Pattambi, here on April 9 to climb the celebrated hill and pay respects to the legendary mystic.
Vaniyamkulam-based literary circle Kavyalapana Sanghom is coordinating the climbing of the hill by the poet accompanied by his fans from across the State. After reaching the top of the hill, Mr. Nair will recite the poem and offer tributes to the mystic.
According to legend Naranath Bhranthan used to roll up a boulder to the peak of the Rayiranallur hill every morning. By noon, he would reach the top of the hill from where he would let the boulder roll down the hill. This was done to show the fate of people who hoarded wealth.
“Naranathu Bhranthan belongs to Panthirukulam or the 12-member clan that forms an integral part of Kerala’s mystic culture. Panthirukulam was in fact a genetic order that exposed the vainness of the complicated caste system in Kerala. Many places in the Pattambi-Thrithala region have found a place in Panthirukulam myth. The poet and his appreciators would visit most of them before initiating the pilgrimage to the top of the hill,” said Rajeev Peeshapilly of the sanghom.
The literary pilgrimage will begin in the morning from TRK Higher secondary School at Vaniyamkulam. The myth of Naranath Branthan would be presented before the audience in Kathakali format by Mr. Peeshapilly and Athipatta Ravi. Then the group will visit visit Kavalappara Swaroopam to which Karakalamma, the only girl child among the Panthirukulam, was adopted.
It would be followed by a dance-drama programme led by Rajitha Naripatta at Aarangottukara. Then the pilgrimage would be extended to the villages of Mezhathur, Thrithala, and Velliyankallu. All of them are on the banks of the Bharathapuzha. By evening, the team would climb down the hill and return after paying respects to Naranathu Bhranthan.
