A group of artists here has come out with an array of paintings featuring various sequences from the novels of writer Uroob in his birth centenary year.
‘Uroob Kathakal: Chithrabhashyam,’ an exhibition of the works, organised by the Uroob Samskarika Samithi at the Kerala Lalithakala Akademi Art Gallery here, is notable for the variety of styles and skills in portraying the writer’s characters.
Works of 15 professional and 10 amateur artists are on display.
Artist Lissy has come up with her version of Uroob’s ‘Mulakuvalli’ while Sunil Asokapuram and Devaprakash have chosen the work ‘Veppatti.’ Ajayan Karadi and Hareendran Chalad have given colour to sequences from the novel ‘Sundarikalum Sundaranmarum.’
Francis Kodankandath has come up with a sequence from ‘Rachiyamma’ while Shabija A.K. has come up with an elaborate work based on ‘Nananja Sayahnam.’
The other works are by E. Sudhakaran (Nilavinte Rahasyam); Roy Karath (Businesskaran); Kabita Mukherjee (Ummachu); Sreekumar Niyathi (Koombedukkunna Mannu); Joy Chacko (Padachonte Choru); Anita Devadas (Pattam); Shashikumar Kathiroor and Rubeena (Oru Mavu Koodi); Vijayaraghavan Panangad (Theevandiyile Katha); Jain (Veedu); Mini (Gopalan Nayarude Thadi); Nisha (Rachiyamma); Saranya (Valayil Kudungiya Mukkuvan); Hasna and Hisham (Onam Kazhinju); Niyas (Hajiyarude Heart); and Irfan (Kumaran Nayarude Aana). Some of them are students of art from various art schools in the city.
Works by M.V. Devan and artist Namboothiri based of some of Uroob’s noted works are the highlights of the exhibition.
M.V. Devan’s illustration for the novels ‘Ummachu’ and ‘Sundarikalum Sundaranmarum’ that were published in Mathrubhumi Weekly during 1953-58 are on display.
Artist Namboothiri’s take on works such as ‘Rachiyamma,’ ‘Alarcha’ and ‘Kelagu Valliyile Kothu’ are unpublished and are a personal gift to artist E. Sudhakaran.
The show will conclude on Thursday.
