For the first time in the State, the district will have committees to monitor and coordinate the services of health care institutions, under the Aardram project.

A meeting of health care officials chaired by District Collector U.V. Jose on Saturday noted that officials of the Health Department, corporation, Integrated Child Development Services, and the National Health Mission had been undertaking health care activities separately, and that there was no mechanism to coordinate the services.

There will be coordination committees at district and corporation levels. The objective of the proposed mechanism is to ensure that primary health care facilities are available to all.

Health care institutions under the Health Department and the corporation will be divided into two blocks to form district and city-level coordination committees.

The superintendent of Women and Children’s Hospital will be in charge of one block consisting of W&C Hospital; urban primary health centres at Veliyancheripadam and Ponnamkodu; urban health centres at Manakavu and Panniyankara; community health centre at Cheruvannur, and primary health centres at Nallalam and Beypore.

The deputy superintendent of Government General Hospital will be in charge of the other block consisting of the Government General Hospital; urban health centres at Puthiyappa, West Hill, Vellayil, and Pallikkandi; urban primary health centre at Kundooparambu, and the general dispensary at Vellimadukunnu.

The district-level committee under the District Collector and the city coordination committee under the health standing committee chairman of the corporation will monitor the activities of the two blocks.
